The Tom Woods Show

A bill that became law in Missouri in June 2021 prevents state and local law enforcement from cooperating in the execution of federal gun regulations in the state. The Justice Department considers this a violation of the Supremacy Clause (of course). Missouri is standing its ground. Dave Roland, the chief drafter of the law, joins us for this episode.

James Lindsay returns to discuss his new book on the origins and consequences of Critical Race Theory. Can it really derive from Marxism if it lacks the traditional economic analysis? We have plenty to discuss in this episode.

Saifedean Ammous, who's written a brutal smash of the fiat money system, traces other problems to the perverse incentives introduced by the government's money. In this episode we discuss two primary ones: the substitution of industrial sludge for real food, and the introduction of inefficient and inadequate energy sources in place of ones that work.

If our economy "cares only about profit," the results will be X, Y, and Z. We've heard this over and over again. I take on this and a bunch of related complaints today.

In this episode I share with you the audio of a panel on which I appeared alongside Modern Age editor Dan McCarthy, at an Intercollegiate Studies Institute conference earlier this month. Although a conservative, Dan has much sympathy for the sane strain of libertarianism (represented, I'd like to think, by your host here) and thought it would be a good idea for a room full of conservative students to hear me. They'd never heard a libertarian who wasn't a leftist or a coward, he said.

Angela McArdle, who is running for chair of the LIbertarian National Committee and currently chairs the Libertarian Party of Los Angeles County, joins us to discuss her ballot initiative to repeal the vaccine passport system there. Biggest surprise: how many progressives have thanked her for doing it, and how appalled they are that their allies support it.

After speaking at an Intercollegiate Studies Institute event earlier this month (February 2022) I was interviewed that afternoon for their podcast, Conservative Conversations. We discuss a bit of the history of our movements as well as foreign policy, Big Tech, libertarian infighting, and other juicy topics.

I recently spoke to a group of young conservatives at an Intercollegiate Studies Institute conference whose impression of libertarianism had largely been formed by our worst representatives. I reassured them that we're not all cowards and leftists, and a very productive discussion ensued.
